3:1 GEAR RATIO - The M1 kiteboard footstraps has a reduction gear drive that allows you to tighten the binding very tight (WARNING: This works so well that you can over tighten your binding and cut off circulation to your feet. So crank it down, but don’t over do it).

ON THE FLY ADJUSTMENT – The M1 binding is the ONLY binding that can be adjusted easily while riding and loosened on the water with ease.

CRANK DOWN FOR ROTATIONAL TRICKS – When you don’t want your board to come off, gusty conditions, contests, rotational tricks, etc – get them tight and you’ll spend a lot less time working upwind for your board and more time riding.

LOOSEN FOR BOARD OFF MANUEVERS – The most common problem, if your bindings are tight enough to give you the performance you need, how can you easily get your foot in and out of the binding when you want to take your board off? Often screws are stripped out from many times of making adjustments and trying to get your old bindings to fit right or on different boards. With the M1 binding you mount them once and start riding.

LIGHTWEIGHT SLEEK DESIGN – At Martin Technologies we know that weight and size matters and have designed the M1 binding to be as minimal in weight and bulk to give you the best ride possible and maximize your air time.

The M1 binding is fully adjustable. This was our first goal when designing this binding system. Although the binding has infinite adjustment and can fit all sizes of feet, we added a multiple hole adjustment in addition so that users can completely dial in the fit and position of their binding to suit their needs.

Mounting: The M1 binding comes with 4 holding washers that provide grip to fix the binding in place on your board. The binding ends and mounting hardware are covered by a protective cover. Beneath this cover are six mounting holes. In general they are used in two main positions (normal=outside) and (small=inside). However the side holes can be used to mount the binding in an off-set position depending on stance you want. The M1 binding does not come with mounting screws as each board is slightly different, so we suggest you find the best mounting screws that work with your individual board.

Binding position:

The M1 binding has the unique design and shape to allow the user to change how the binding is mounted to the board by offering four different mounting positions. The bindings can be mounted with the reels to the outside or lateral side; however, some riders prefer to mount their binding with the reels on the inside or medial side. In addition, the M1 binding can be mounted with the curved shape towards your body, or away from your body. We suggest that you try each of the four positions to find what works the best for you.

How it works:

The M1 binding is a soft high quality foot strap that uses a mechanical advantage gear system and a high strength cable to fully adjust to any size and to tighten down for a secure hold.

The lace cable ends are fixed to a spool within the Boa Reel. When the knob is rotated clockwise, the lace is wound on to the spool as the binding tightens. The gear train in the reel develops significant mechanical advantage so a great deal of tensioning force is created with very little effort.

The binding has a smooth sliding arm that moves in and out of the binding to provide infinite adjustment.

To release the tension or to increase the size of the binding, simply pull directly upwards on the Boa reel to release. When the binding is in the position or size for your needs, simply push the knob back down into its locking position. If it’s too loose, just notch the reel clockwise until the EXACT position you are looking for is achieved.

To Loosen: Pull the knob out to disengage the reel. The red mark shows you that the reel is in the loose or open position. To Tighten: Push the knob back in and tighten the reel.

Cleaning
To ensure the maximum performance of your M1 Bindings:

1. After use, rinse your bindings thoroughly, paying special attention to the dial area. The accumulation of sand or mud inside the gear can cause cable release problems.

2. After rinsing with fresh water, it is important to add some lubricant into the reel. The best way to do this is spray a standard lubricant into the holes where the cable exits the reel.

Note: If you have the Cap Cover installed, you will need to remove it for cleaning. If you don’t have a spray lubricant, a drop or two of household oil will keep things moving smoothly.

If you notice a lot of drag when pulling the binding open, we recommend repeating step 2 several times or until the binding releases smoothly.

Q:What sizes does the M1 binding come in?
A: The M1 binding is fully adjustable and one size fits ALL!

Q: Are there limitations to how it mounts to the board?
A: The M1 binding mounts to your board exactly the same as regular bindings, but with more adjustment options.

Q: Can the M1 binding be used in salt water?
A: The M1 binding can be used in fresh or salt water, but be sure to rinse after each use with fresh water. Follow the recommended care and maintenance guidelines and lubricate occasionally.

Q: Do I mount the binding with the reels on the inside or the outside?
A: The M1 binding mounts in four different positions, Reels inside, Reels outside, Curved side towards you or curved side away from you. We recommend you try each and find what works the best for your feet.

Q: What happens if a cable breaks?
A: The cables are stainless steel aircraft grade and with normal use won’t break. If the cable or the reel ever fail, they can be quickly replaced.

Q: Is the Adjustability on the M1 binding for tightening only?
A: The amazingly easy adjustment of the M1 Binding serves two functions. It will adjust to your foot size for the perfect fit – once there, most riders leave it there and just focus on their riding. However, it also can be used to securely hold your feet in the binding and your board on. No more lost boards or feet coming out unexpectedly – just crank it down.

Q: If I tighten it down too much, will it break?
A: Anything will break if too much force is used, but we are confident that you will stop cranking it down long before the binding shows any damage.

Q: What about sand?
A: The reel is designed to withstand harsh conditions and proper cleaning will keep it working for years. The New Cap Cover – adds an extra element of protection against the worst environments. If your binding reel ever becomes completely clogged with sand and the care guidelines were not followed, it can still be taken apart and cleaned in minutes to bring it back to a like new condition.

Q: Ok, I know they will hold my feet in, but will they release my board when I crash hard or need to kick the board off?
A: Yes. Although the M1 binding’s can be adjusted to hold you feet in very securely, your board does come off when you need it to.
